We have a fantastic of lineup of talented women for you who will drop gems and words of wisdom about their life in the visual and performing arts. “I think that most people can look back at their lives and see the people who have acted as mentors, and if they can’t they can probably look back and see where they wish they had had someone to bounce ideas off of and hear wisdom from. For women in the arts, Meraki Mentors, hosted by Candace Howze, is looking to step into that role of mentoring.
We do our best to feature women in different fields of the arts, women who are living or working in creative ways. So we might think of that in the different fields of the arts, or any other way that someone might expand that idea… and basically just kind of create a community where they have a platform to share what they do and that women who are doing the same thing or aspiring to do that kind of work themselves can kind of hear from these women and get insight into how they were able to pursue the work that they do…”
Greetings everyone! We're pleased to announce that we have proposed to host a live recording of Meraki Mentors at the 2019 SXSW. There's a catch of course – we need your help! Now through August 30th, you can vote for us at the link below to increase our chances of being accepted for next year's programming!
The topic for our episode is
Bree Newsome. Jordan Peele. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Tarana Burke. These are just some of the people we've seen become leaders of a larger movement. Whether they're behind the camera or leading a protest, they embody a remarkable sense of urgency, purpose, and hope, empowering people on smaller stages to innovate the spaces they occupy and dispute their absence in the media, boardroom, political office, and the public square. Two guests (to be announced at a later date) will discuss the role of community in taking ownership of your representation. They'll share personal stories about becoming innovators and why the term "creative" doesn't just apply to the arts.
